The Prince of Wales Visits England Football Team

The Prince of Wales, who is the president of the FA, recently visited the England men’s football team to wish them good luck ahead of the UEFA European Football Championship. During his visit, he shared some important advice from his youngest son, Prince Louis. According to Prince Charles, Prince Louis suggested that the team should “eat twice the amount” during the tournament. This humorous advice was delivered by Prince Charles with a pinch of salt, as he envisioned the players running around with massive great tummies and loads of stitches on the pitch.

Travelling to St George’s Park, the national football centre in Burton upon Trent, Prince William, the heir to the throne, met with the squad and spoke with coach Gareth Southgate ahead of their first match against Serbia on Sunday. During the visit, Prince William presented shirts to each of the 26 players selected for the Euro 2024 team and heard from their coach about their preparations for the tournament. It is clear that Prince William, an avid football fan, took the opportunity to connect with the players and show his support for the team.

Prince William’s love for football is well-known, and he has often been spotted at various matches over the years. Last month, he was seen cheering on his favorite team, Aston Villa, as they played against Olympiacos F.C. The royal dad also took his son, Prince George, to watch Aston Villa win against Lille OSC during a UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final match. Prince William has always been open about his appreciation for the sport and has even credited football for some of his closest friendships.

During a previous chat with footballers Harry Kane and Declan Rice, Prince William reminisced about his childhood memories of playing football. He shared that some of his fondest memories involve playing huge games of football with his entire school set, around 60 pupils, using multiple balls. The sheer size and scale of these games, along with the fun of everyone running around chasing each other, left a lasting impression on Prince William. He emphasized the camaraderie and friendships that are born out of playing sports and being pushed together in adversity.

The visit by the Prince of Wales to the England football team was not only a gesture of support but also an opportunity for Prince William to connect with the players and share some light-hearted advice from his youngest son. Prince William’s love for football and his appreciation for the sport’s ability to foster friendships were evident during the visit. As the England team prepares for the UEFA European Football Championship, they can take inspiration from the prince’s words and approach the tournament with determination and camaraderie.
