The Duchess of Edinburgh: A Fashion Icon in Colombia

The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, never fails to impress with her simple yet sophisticated style. On her recent trip to Colombia, she showcased her fashion prowess by donning a stunning dress from one of her favorite brands. Sophie arrived in Colombia wearing the Suzannah London ‘Aria’ tea dress, a black silk dress adorned with delicate white daisies. The classic tea dress silhouette featured a flowing skirt and fitted bodice, exuding elegance and grace. The dress also boasted puff three-quarter length sleeves, an open neck with a one-button clasp, and elasticated ruching around the waist for a cinched look.

To complement her dress, the Duchess opted for a black blazer with boxy shoulders by Helmut Lang, adding a touch of modernity to her outfit. She kept her accessories minimal, carrying her staple black croc texture clutch by Sophie Habsburg. For footwear, Sophie chose a pair of Nicola Sexton cream leather pointed loafer-style pumps with a gold buckle detail, a classy and comfortable choice. The Duchess completed her look with a low updo, showcasing her blonde locks, and natural makeup with a subtle emphasis on the outer corner of her eyes.

Sophie’s first engagement in Colombia was a meeting with the Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, and the Vice Minister of Women, Diana Gomez. The Duchess visited the Centre for Memory, Peace and Reconciliation, where she met women impacted by armed conflict, including survivors of conflict-related sexual violence. Together, they viewed an exhibition of artwork titled ‘Spinning with patience to weave hopes for peace’. The Duchess also participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the UK and Canadian Embassies, where she learned about the work of women from the Colombian Armed Forces in support of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda. This agenda aims to ensure the meaningful participation of women in peace processes at all levels.

Sophie’s visit to Cali allowed her to immerse herself in the local Pacific region’s culture and traditions, which have been profoundly impacted by the armed conflict. In Cali, she met women’s organizations, entrepreneurs, and experienced a captivating musical performance. Throughout her trip, the Duchess demonstrated her unwavering support for the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) and the Women, Peace, and Security agenda (WPS). Sophie gave a powerful speech on International Women’s Day in 2019, expressing her commitment to raising awareness and amplifying the voices of women and girls affected by conflict. She pledged to champion the WPS and PSVI, making these organizations a central focus of her work.

After the completion of her trip, Sophie was finally reunited with her husband, Prince Edward, who had recently returned from his own tour of Singapore, Australia, and Indonesia. Unfortunately, his travels prevented him from attending his brother’s private birthday celebration at Clarence House, an event that Sophie attended alone. Nonetheless, the Duchess brought her characteristic elegance and poise to represent the royal family on her trip, leaving a lasting impression on the people of Colombia.

The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, once again showcased her impeccable sense of style during her visit to Colombia. Her choice of the Suzannah London ‘Aria’ tea dress, paired with a Helmut Lang blazer, demonstrated her ability to effortlessly combine classic and contemporary elements. Sophie’s commitment to supporting organizations fighting for women’s rights and advocating for peace was evident throughout her engagements in Colombia. Whether charming the Vice President or engaging with local communities, the Duchess brought warmth and grace to every interaction. Sophie’s fashion choices and dedication to important causes make her a true fashion icon and a shining representative of the royal family.
