However, according to sources, he was denied entry and left looking dejected. Cohen, on the other hand, denies these claims and insists that he was simply trying to make a reservation for dinner on a different night.
The question that arises here is: why would a man of Cohen’s notoriety not simply make a reservation online? Cohen explained that he had not yet been to the restaurant, even though he lives just a block away, and decided to walk over with his son to make a reservation for his daughter’s upcoming birthday. This explanation seems dubious, considering the availability of online reservation systems.
Le Veau d’Or, the restaurant in question, recently reopened on the Upper East Side under new ownership and management. With a history dating back to 1937, the restaurant has hosted celebrities such as Orson Welles, James Beard, and Jacqueline Onassis. The recent Harper’s Bazaar Icons bash, attended by the likes of Martha Stewart, Natasha Lyonne, and Fran Lebowitz, was a star-studded affair. Notably, Naomi Campbell was in attendance, albeit fashionably late, as she also made an appearance at Bulgari’s party in Brooklyn.
Michael Cohen’s presence at such an esteemed event only serves as a stark reminder of his fall from grace. Once considered one of Donald Trump’s closest confidantes, Cohen became infamous for his involvement in the former president’s hush money trial. Subsequently, Cohen served prison time after pleading guilty to several federal charges, including tax evasion, making false statements, campaign finance violations, and lying to Congress.
