In a heartwarming gesture, Charles rehomed The British Hen Welfare Trust’s millionth hen, named Henrietta, along with 30 additional feathered friends back in August. The royal abode for these lucky hens was carefully crafted by British accessories fashion designer, Lulu Guinness, adding a touch of luxury to their new home.
The hen house, designed by Lulu Guinness, features an intricate façade adorned with beautiful green foliage, giving the chickens a stylish and comfortable place to settle into. In a clever nod to Highgrove, the property of King Charles, the designer labelled the hen house ‘Hengrove’ in cursive sage green paint. With such attention to detail and craftsmanship, the hen house truly reflects the importance of these feathered friends in the royal setting.
The British Hen Welfare Trust, responsible for rehoming commercial laying hens, has been instrumental in providing a new lease on life for thousands of hens every year. Founder and CEO, Jane Howorth, expressed her delight in seeing Henrietta and her 30 companions finding a home at Highgrove Gardens. The trust’s work extends beyond just rehoming hens, as they also advocate for support of British free-range eggs in various settings such as schools, communities, and back gardens.
Located in Gloucestershire, Highgrove Gardens is the private residence of King Charles, boasting nine bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 900 acres of organic land. Notable for being the former residence of Prince William and Prince Harry during their childhood, the estate holds special memories for the royal family. One unique feature of Highgrove House is ‘Club H,’ a secret underground room that served as a teenage hideout for Prince Harry. The room, originally a bomb shelter, was transformed into a cozy space with Persian rugs and Moroccan sofas, reflecting the Duke of Sussex’s fond memories of mischief and peace in this retreat.
