The atmosphere at the August Wilson Theater during the pre-show “prologue” of the hit show “Cabaret” is becoming a cause for concern. The 75-minute prologue, where dancers perform in the “Kit Kat Club” bar area while attendees drink, has resulted in some guests exhibiting unruly behavior. As soon as guests enter the theater, they are offered a free shot of schnapps and a drink voucher. To add to that, champagne and cocktails are served during the performance to those sitting at pricey tables.
Numerous theatergoers have taken to Reddit to express their displeasure with the behavior of some drunk guests at the show. One person recounted an incident where the lady seated next to them was extremely drunk, getting up multiple times during the show, and making noise with her ice cubes. Another guest mentioned being involved in a shouting match with an intoxicated couple who were disrupting the performance by talking, singing, and engaging with the actors.
It seems that security at the theater is aware of the issue but is not taking strong action to address it. Despite complaints from attendees about drunk and disruptive behavior, security allegedly only monitored the situation. One person mentioned a drunk woman in the front row who was blowing kisses at one of the actors, while another talked about a woman who walked on stage and grabbed one of the stars during a performance of the song “Two Ladies.”
Guests at the show have witnessed various instances of unruly behavior, from excessive drinking to disruptive actions during the performance. Some attendees have reported confrontations with other guests, leading to shouting matches and negatively impacting their experience. While most guests still enjoyed the show, the presence of disruptive individuals has put a damper on the overall evening for many.
It is evident from these accounts that the issue of drunk and disruptive behavior at the Broadway show “Cabaret” is a growing concern. While some guests have brushed off the disturbances as part of the overall experience, it is essential for the theater management to take proactive measures to address these incidents. By enforcing stricter alcohol policies, increasing security presence, and educating guests on appropriate behavior, the August Wilson Theater can ensure a more enjoyable and respectful environment for all theatergoers.
