Queen Mary of Denmark was left visibly shaken during a public engagement when she was hit by a motorised scooter. The incident occurred during a week-long tour of Greenland with her husband, King Frederik. A video obtained by Danish publication, Ekstra Bladet, captured the moment an elderly man on a scooter almost knocked Mary to the ground as she was greeting crowds in Nuuk. Onlookers gasped as Mary cried out, although she quickly regained her composure with the help of her security team. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
Following the incident, Mary and Frederik continued with their scheduled engagements, travelling to Igaliku and Qassiarsuk on the island in the North Atlantic ocean. The royal couple, accompanied by their 13-year-old twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, enjoyed sailing on the Royal Ship Dannebrog during part of their trip. As part of Danish royal tradition, Mary and Frederik have relocated to Gråsten Palace for their summer break.
Mary and Frederik recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in May, marking two decades since they tied the knot. Despite their milestone celebration, the couple has opted for a private trip abroad. Their eldest son, Crown Prince Christian, is currently acting as regent while his parents are away. With Queen Margrethe’s abdication in January, Frederik ascended to the throne, officially making Mary the Queen of Denmark.
As an Australian-born commoner, Mary captured the hearts of the Danish people when she began dating Crown Prince Frederik in 2000. Known for her style and grace, Mary quickly adapted to royal life by learning Danish and embracing her role as a princess. She has been praised for her efforts against bullying, domestic violence, and social exclusions, while advocating for women’s rights and the LGBTQ+ community in Denmark. Despite her popularity, Mary remains humble, acknowledging that no one is perfect.
