50 Cent’s “Many Men” and the Donald Trump Assassination Attempt: A Bittersweet Moment

Darrell “Digga” Branch, the producer of 50 Cent’s song “Many Men,” has expressed mixed feelings about the recent trending of the song in connection with the Donald Trump assassination attempt. While he acknowledges the benefit of the classic record going viral in 2024, he is not pleased with it being used to portray Trump in a gangsta light, considering his personal dislike for the former president.

Following the news of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Bethel, PA, Digga’s notifications began to light up as the song “Many Men” started gaining traction. Despite initially questioning the authenticity of the incident, it was later confirmed that the shooting was indeed real. The would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was apprehended by Secret Service agents after fatally shooting an innocent bystander at a rally.

The aftermath of the assassination attempt saw a significant increase in streams for “Many Men,” with a 250% surge and over 2 million streams in just 2 days. This sudden resurgence in popularity proves the enduring appeal of the song, which was originally released in 2003. 50 Cent capitalized on the buzz during a concert in Boston by performing the song and displaying his “Get Rich Or Die Tryin'” album cover with Trump’s face edited onto it. However, Digga warns that he would not support the song being used in Trump’s campaign activities.

As a Harlem native, 50 Cent began his music career in the late ’90s by producing for local MCs, eventually garnering mainstream success. He is set to showcase his extensive catalog in an upcoming beat battle in Atlanta, highlighting his contributions to the hip hop scene. Additionally, revelations made by Ma$e on a recent episode of “It Is What It Is,” regarding an attempted robbery orchestrated by the late Big L, are moments that Digga can corroborate. Having worked with artists like Big L, Herb McGruff, and Bloodshed, Digga teases fans with the promise of more insider stories when the biopic featuring Cam’ron and Ma$e is completed.
