Taylor Swift Concert in Edinburgh Causes Seismic Activity

Taylor Swift’s performance in Edinburgh last weekend not only captivated her fans but also literally shook the city itself. The global superstar’s Eras Tour show at Murrayfield Stadium on Friday was so energetic that it caused seismic activity, as reported by the British Geological Survey (BGS). The magnitude of movement reached 23.4 nanometres (nm), making it the most dynamic concert out of the three shows she performed over the weekend.
The energy and excitement from Swifties didn’t stop there, as Saturday and Sunday’s shows followed closely behind with 22.8 nm and 23.3 nm of movement, respectively. The British Geological Survey noted that songs like “Ready For It?”, “Cruel Summer,” and “Champagne Problems” were the main contributors to the seismic activity each night, with hits like “Shake It Off,” “But Daddy I Love Him,” and “Getaway Car” receiving honorable mentions.

On Friday night, “Ready For It?” generated a staggering 160 beats per minute of activity, equivalent to approximately 80 kW of power – a force comparable to 10-16 car batteries. Despite the impressive numbers, the vibrations were so localized that they were unlikely to have been felt by anyone beyond those in the immediate vicinity of the stadium.
Taylor Swift took to Instagram on Monday to express her gratitude to the Edinburgh crowd, acknowledging their record-breaking attendance and the warm reception they gave her. Each show boasted a minimum of 73,000 people in attendance, making them the most-attended concerts in Scottish history. This isn’t the first time Swift’s concerts have caused seismic activity, as seen in her Seattle performances in July 2023.

The Eras Tour has been a monumental experience for Taylor Swift and her fans around the world. The tour kicked off in March 2023 in North America before making its way overseas, captivating audiences with its grandeur and energy. Swift recently performed her 100th show in Liverpool, where she announced that the tour will conclude in December after three final shows in Vancouver.
Reflecting on the tour, Swift described it as the most exhausting yet joyful experience of her career. She expressed gratitude for the support of her fans and the opportunity to create unforgettable memories with them. The Eras Tour has been a journey of growth and self-discovery for Swift, culminating in a celebration of music, love, and connection.
