Prince Harry and Meghan were in Nigeria on a three-day trip which coincided with Mother’s Day in the US. The couple’s visit to Nigeria was at the invitation of the chief of defence staff, where they partook in various public engagements, including visiting a school and a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered. While Meghan was away, she made sure to keep her children, Archie and Lilibet, in her thoughts.
Meghan usually celebrates Mother’s Day privately with her children, but over the years, she has used her platform to support various charitable campaigns as well. In 2019, just six days after giving birth to Archie, Meghan and Harry shared a touching photo on their Instagram account, Sussex Royal, featuring Archie’s tiny toes against a backdrop of forget-me-nots in their garden at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. The caption paid tribute to all mothers, past, present, mothers-to-be, and those who are no longer with us but are forever remembered. This gesture was a heartfelt way for Meghan and Harry to honor all mothers on this special day.
In 2021, when Meghan was nearing the birth of her daughter Lilibet, the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation partnered with Harvest Home L.A to provide essential items to pregnant women and their children. Meghan also wrote a personal letter expressing her appreciation for community support, pregnancy resources, and guidance during this special time in a mother’s life. This initiative showcased Meghan’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and amplifying the voices of expectant mothers in need.
Last year, Meghan supported a campaign from Alliance of Moms, an organization that raises awareness about expectant and parenting foster youth in Los Angeles. Meghan’s close friend, Kelly McKee Zajfen, who co-founded the organization, praised Meghan for her nurturing nature and unwavering support for those in need. Kelly’s heartfelt message highlighted Meghan’s commitment to being a fierce advocate for mothers and children who require assistance and care.
