King Charles to Travel by Carriage at Trooping the Colour Amid Cancer Treatment

Recent reports have indicated that King Charles, at 75 years old, is determined to attend his annual birthday parade known as Trooping the Colour on 15 June in London. Despite ongoing cancer treatment, the monarch has opted to postpone most of his public-facing events but is actively participating in daily red boxes and conducting small audiences at Buckingham Palace.

Traditionally, the sovereign rides on horseback during the Trooping the Colour procession. However, due to the King’s cancer treatment, aides are exploring ways in which Charles can still take part in the event. One possible solution is for the King to watch the military spectacle from a podium and be driven from Buckingham Palace in a carriage, similar to how his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, used to participate. It is worth noting that up until 1987, the late Queen would ride on horseback down The Mall.

Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles’s cancer diagnosis on 5 February. The palace revealed that the disease, which is not prostate cancer, was discovered while the King was receiving treatment in the hospital for an enlarged prostate. Despite the confirmation of the disease, aides declined to disclose the specific type of cancer that Charles is battling.

In a separate development related to Trooping the Colour, the Army mistakenly announced on its website that Princess Kate would be reviewing the troops in June without seeking approval from Kensington Palace. The official website indicated that Kate, as the Honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards, would conduct her review on 8 June. However, with the Princess currently recovering from abdominal surgery, it remains uncertain whether she will be able to attend the Trooping the Colour ceremony on 15 June. Kate is expected to resume her public-facing duties after Easter.

Despite her recent surgery, Princess Kate has been seen visiting The Windsor Farm Shop over the weekend with her husband, Prince William. Additionally, she has been present at her children’s sports matches and has been spotted on the school run at Lambrook. As Kate continues her recovery, her involvement in future royal engagements, including Trooping the Colour, remains uncertain.
