Madonna Faces Lawsuit for Late Start to Shows: Fans Accuse Singer of False Advertising

Madonna, the iconic Queen of Pop, and Live Nation find themselves at the center of a controversial lawsuit. Two fans, Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden, have filed a class-action lawsuit against the singer and the entertainment company, alleging “false advertising” due to Madonna’s consistent tardiness during her “Celebration” tour stops at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. According to the plaintiffs, the performances were scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET, but Madonna did not take the stage until 10:30 p.m. for all three shows held on December 13, 14, and 16, 2023. Fellows and Hadden argue that these delays constitute “wanton exercise in false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.” They are seeking unspecified damages for their disappointment.

Fans Express Their Displeasure

Madonna’s late starts at her Brooklyn shows have not gone unnoticed by disgruntled fans. Many concertgoers expressed their frustration and irritation towards the music legend for her lack of punctuality. One person took to Twitter, stating, “I don’t give a f**k if you’re Madonna. If you’re 3 hours late, you’re just f**king rude.” Another fan added, “Concert supposed to start at 8:30. Madonna started at 11 pm. Whole arena chanting bulls**t at her lateness. Great show but went way too late.” A third individual demanded a refund, exclaiming, “2:30 hours late. I WANT A REFUND NOW.”

A source close to Madonna addressed the issue, claiming that the late starts were the result of technical difficulties encountered during her sound check. The Queen of Pop’s tour began in London in October and was originally scheduled to kick off in July 2023. However, Madonna had to postpone the tour due to a “serious” bacterial infection that required hospitalization. Following her recovery and subsequent international leg of the “Celebration” tour, Madonna expressed gratitude for her improved health, declaring it a “f**king miracle” that she was able to continue performing. In Belgium, she recounted her recent hospitalization, saying, “Less than four months ago, I was in a hospital and I was unconscious, and people were thinking, predicting that I might not make it. I was given another chance.”

As the lawsuit progresses, both Madonna and Live Nation will need to address the allegations of false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and deceptive trade practices. The outcome of the case remains uncertain, as it will likely hinge on the evidence presented by both parties. Fans of the Queen of Pop eagerly await updates on the lawsuit, hoping for a resolution that satisfies all parties involved.

Madonna’s late starts to her “Celebration” tour shows have sparked controversy and legal action. Fans argue that her delays constitute false advertising, while Madonna’s camp cites technical difficulties as the cause. The outcome of the lawsuit will ultimately determine the consequences for the iconic singer and Live Nation.
