The Honouring of Prince Harry at the Living Legends of Aviation Awards

Prince Harry is set to be recognized for his contributions to aviation and aerospace at the upcoming 21st annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards. This prestigious event, hosted by acclaimed actor and qualified pilot John Travolta, will take place in Beverly Hills. Prince Harry, a royal father-of-two, will join three other new inductees who have made significant contributions to the field of aviation.

Before embarking on his successful career as a humanitarian and advocate for mental health, Prince Harry served in the British Army for a decade. During his military service, he underwent intensive flying training in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. He also participated in combat missions in Afghanistan. In recognition of his achievements, Prince Harry was awarded his Flying Wings in 2010 after completing an eight-month, 220-hour course with the Army Aviation Centre. Throughout his training, he learned to pilot both the Squirrel helicopter and the Firefly fixed-wing aircraft.

Prince Harry’s love for aviation extends beyond his military training. In 2014, he flew in a Spitfire alongside pilot instructor Phil O’Dell. This flight aimed to raise awareness for the Spitfire Scholarship, a program that offers training opportunities for wounded veterans. The flight also commemorated the 75th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain. On the day of the flight, one of the aircraft experienced mechanical difficulties, leading Prince Harry to selflessly offer his seat to 95-year-old RAF veteran Tom Neil, who fought in the Battle of Britain. This act of kindness showcased Prince Harry’s philanthropy and respect for veterans.

Prince Harry has been the patron of WellChild, a charitable organization supporting children and young people with serious illnesses, for 16 years. The Duke of Sussex has consistently shown his dedication to WellChild’s mission by visiting families in their homes and hospitals, meeting WellChild nurses, and attending the WellChild Awards. During the ceremony, Prince Harry takes the time to sit down with each award winner and engage in conversations about their interests and hobbies. His passion for the organization and the inspiring children and families it supports shines through in these interactions.

In addition to his ongoing support and advocacy, Prince Harry made a generous personal donation to WellChild from the proceeds of his book. This contribution further exemplifies his commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of children and their families facing serious health challenges.

The 21st annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards will honour Prince Harry for his remarkable contributions to aviation and aerospace. As a decorated soldier and a passionate advocate for charitable causes, Prince Harry’s dedication to serving others is truly commendable. This event not only recognizes his achievements but also serves as a reminder of his enduring commitment to making a difference in the world.
