Keith Urban: Celebrating the Unsung Heroes of the Country Music Touring Industry

Keith Urban, the renowned country music superstar, is no stranger to life on the road. With over two decades of experience as a touring musician, Urban is celebrating his love for the touring industry by once again hosting the Country Music Association (CMA) Touring Awards for the second consecutive year. The awards show aims to recognize the vital behind-the-scenes members of the country music touring industry, highlighting categories such as Coach/Truck Driver of the Year, Crew of the Year, and Lighting Director of the Year, among others.

As someone who has been a part of the touring scene since his supporting role on Brooks & Dunn’s Neon Circus & Wild West Show in 2001, Keith Urban understands the rigors and hard work that go into keeping shows on the road. He not only sets up his own equipment but has also worked as a lighting guy and crew member for a band. Reflecting on his own experiences, Urban expressed his honor at being asked to host the CMA Touring Awards and the opportunity to acknowledge and shower love on the hard workers behind the scenes.

The touring community plays a crucial role in the success of country music artists, and Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer, recognizes the importance of honoring these unsung heroes. Attending shows, witnessing new tour announcements, and reliving unforgettable nights are constant reminders for Trahern of the dedication, resilience, and significance of the touring community. She expressed her excitement for the addition of five new categories this year, including the Crew of the Year honor, as a special tribute to these road warriors.

This year, the CMA Touring Awards will feature an expanded lineup of categories, totaling 20 nominations. Artists like Old Dominion, Chris Stapleton, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and even Keith Urban himself will have multiple members of their crew vying for recognition. The voting process will open on December 13 and run until December 28, allowing country music fans and industry professionals to show their support for their favorite touring professionals. The grand ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 12, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Keith Urban’s recent endeavors have taken him on a world tour and a residency in Las Vegas. The Speed of Now World Tour, in support of his latest album, took him to sold-out arenas worldwide throughout 2022. Following the world tour, Urban embarked on his very first Sin City residency titled Keith Urban the Las Vegas Residency, where he performed multiple shows at the Bakkt Theater in Planet Hollywood. Notably, his wife, Nicole Kidman, made surprise appearances during several of these shows.

Following the conclusion of his residency on November 22, Keith Urban is presumed to have returned home to spend the holidays with his wife, Nicole Kidman, and their two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. Despite his demanding schedule and international stardom, Urban values his family time and cherishes the moments spent together.

Keith Urban’s continuous involvement in the CMA Touring Awards not only showcases his passion for the touring industry but also highlights the efforts of the unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes. By hosting the event, Urban helps shine a spotlight on the talents and hard work of the crew members, lighting directors, and drivers who bring the country music experience to life. With his sincere appreciation for the touring industry, Urban’s hosting role serves as an inspiration and acknowledgment of their invaluable contributions.

Keith Urban’s return as the host for the CMA Touring Awards demonstrates his deep understanding and respect for the touring community. As a seasoned musician, he recognizes the hard work and dedication required to keep shows on the road.
