We’re less than a month away from the premiere of American Idol season nine.

While the major show news over the last few months involved Ellen DeGeneres as the new judge; the latest buzz regarding the competition revolves around the man that truly makes the series what it is: Simon Cowell.

According to Simon’s brother Tony, a radio personality with a weekly podcast: “A press statement is being prepared which will confirm what everybody expected: Simon will leave Idol at the end of 2010 to concentrate on bringing the American version of ‘X Factor’ to U.S. Television in 2011.”

If true, that would make this Cowell’s final season as a panelist. Would you even watch American Idol if he left?

Regarding the season itself, Fox announced a few key dates for it this week:

• January 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27; February 2, 3: Nationwide auditions for Hollywood. Rotating guest judges will include Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Joe Jonas, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, and Shania Twain.
• February 9: Hollywood rounds. DeGeneres debuts.
• February 17: 24 semifinalists announced.
• March 16: 12 finalists announced.

Also of note: there will be no Wild Card round this year, as the controversial addition to last season’s Idol gave the judges the power to keep one contestant on even after he/she was voted off by viewers.

Don’t be jealous, Mrs. Kris Allen.

Your man still only has eyes for you. He just couldn’t resist a photo op this week with the iconic figure of Daisy Duck.

The American Idol champion performed in front of thousands at Walt Disney World as part of that locale’s Christmas Day Parade Television special, set to air Christmas Day. It will be shown on December 25 on ABC.

Allen will be joined on the special by Celine Dion, Yani, Steve Wonder and the Jonas Brothers, the latter of whom you can also see rocking out right now.

See, Adam Lambert is capable of singing a song without making out with a guy and simulating oral sex! We knew he could do it!

The singer, who has been the speak of the Internet this week for his rendition of “For Your Entertainment” at the American Music Awards, has released the official music video for that same single.

It’s like American Idol season eight all over again. Adam Lambert is everywhere!

The singer’s debut CD comes out on November 24, while he recently confirmed a collaboration with Lady GaGa.

Lambert also showed an affection for naked women inside Details magazine this week, while “Time for Miracles,” his single from the movie 2012, was released online.

As previously reported, Ellen DeGeneres will be replacing Paula Abdul as American Idol judge, so it seems apropos that the funnywoman found time to call her new costar, Ryan Seacrest on Thursday to chat On Air.

Here are some HIGHlights:

On her qualifications for being a judge:
“The people are the ones that choose the American Idol. Ultimately it doesn’t come down to some expert in the music industry, it comes down to everybody at home that states ‘that’s the person I relate to, that’s the person that I’m going to buy music from’.”

On her judging style:
“I’m not going to be mean, I hate when Simon [Cowell] is that mean. You can be constructive and criticize somebody that’s helpful instead of mean spirited.”

On Paula Abdul’s departure:
“I hope Paula [Abdul] is okay with it. I don’t want anybody to think I took Paula’s job away. I feel like she was gone and then everybody was looking for somebody else, then I stepped in. I certainly don’t want to be that person that’s the evil taking Paula’s job away.”

Paula isn’t even paying attention to all the press!

What’s it with stars filming themselves while getting it on?

So many sex tape scandals have dominated the news in current years that this week’s Eric Dane tape doesn’t even make the list. Partly because there was no sex on it, but still. That was a naked and odd display, but not really scandalous.

Other sex tapes, however, have provided ample gossip fodder, unintentional comedy and occasional lawsuits. Some of the videos featured attractive stars, others didn’t. Some salaciously derailed careers, while others launched them.

Here’s a look at The Hollywood Gossip’s Top 10 Celebrity Sex Tapes …

10. Lauren Conrad. We know. There was no Lauren Conrad sex tape. But few real tapes have sparked as much gossip as this, which Spencer Pratt concocted during his feud with LC. Honorable made-up mention: Britney Spears-Kevin Federline.

9. Olivia Mojica. This American Idol reject tried to procure a 16th minute of fame with a hard core sex romp, fittingly entitled Hard Core Idol. This tape was most notable as the first in which the star personally asked us to take it down.

8. R. Kelly. When one gets indicted on 21 counts of having sex with a minor (and also urinating on her), it probably seems like not that huge a deal when one is eventually acquitted of a more tame charge of soliciting a minor for child porn.

Some sex tape stars are attractive guys. Others, not so much.

7. Colin Farrell. The actor totally went to town on girlfriend and Playboy Playmate Nicole Narain. Their sex tape was widely distributed and popular.

6. Verne Troyer. Admit it, you were grossed out last year when you heard about it, but still watched. It’s okay. We did too, and still have nightmares.

5. Dustin Diamond. Dude claimed he didn’t condone the video’s release, all the while making a back-channel deal with David Hans Schmidt (R.I.P. Dave). That’s ethically filthy. Giving those skanks the “Dirty Sanchez” treatment was worse, though.

4. Pamela Anderson. Long before Andy Samberg was on a boat, Pam and Tommy Lee were. Boinking. The couple’s honeymoon sex escapades were then stolen from their home and leaked on the web, sparking years of moans, groans and lawsuits.

3. Rob Lowe. Now a distant memory for the redeemed actor, his 1988 sex tape was a real career Lowe point. He took a random girl home from the Democratic National Convention who turned out to be 16. Rob went to rehab for sex addiction.

2. Paris Hilton. If you didn’t know the ho-tel heiress before Rick Salomon hit it night-vision style … you definitely heard about Rick hitting it night-vision style.

1. Kim Kardashian. The only thing given to this socialite that was longer-lasting than Ray J’s erect unit was the publicity Kim’s sex tape has garnered for her. Kim is still using her body for attention, but keeps it a bit more kovered these days.
